The Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources of the Sultanate of Oman, Saud bin Hamoud Al-Habsi, affirmed last Thursday in Oran that economic cooperation between his country and Algeria “is entering a more dynamic phase and is oriented towards concrete investment projects.” The Omani minister declared on the sidelines of the tenth edition of the International Fisheries and Aquaculture Exhibition ”SIPA 2025” that the participation of his country as guest of honor in this event represents an extension of a common economic path with Algeria which began to gain increasing momentum after the bilateral agreements signed during the year 2025.
Dr Al-Habsi stressed that the agreements signed during Sultan Haitham bin Tariq’s visit to Algeria in May 2025 constituted an “economic turning point”, especially after the agreement on two executive programs and a memorandum of understanding in the agricultural and maritime sectors.
He said the development of joint investment projects had become an “economic priority for both parties,” noting that work was underway to explore the creation of an Omani-Algerian company to invest in the manufacturing of agricultural and maritime equipment and the development of aquaculture projects.
He added that cooperation could extend to the areas of product quality control, development of production technologies and exchange of expertise in desert agriculture, projects he sees as having
“direct economic benefits” and likely to create jobs and increase production capacities in both countries, while helping to strengthen their food security.
The Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources of the Sultanate of Oman also affirmed that Algeria is an important economic partner in North Africa and that his country wishes to develop maritime and agricultural investment projects with it, noting that ”SIPA 2025” offers a practical platform to establish partnerships and identify opportunities for cooperation between economic actors on both sides.
Mr. Al Habsi said the fishing sector in the Sultanate of Oman has become a “value-added generator” through an integrated production chain that includes fishing, aquaculture, processing, export and marketing.
