Inspection des unités transférées à GICA – Le Jeune Indépendant

The Minister of Industry, Yahia Bachir, visited the wilaya of Adrar on Monday where he inspected several projects. The Fenoughil brickworks, in the south of the wilaya of Adrar, is expected to ensure an annual production of 300,000 tonnes upon its entry into operation scheduled for March 2026. To achieve this, the Minister of Industry, Yahia Bachir, insisted, this Monday, on the need to accelerate the technical and engineering work necessary for the commissioning of this unit.

During the first stage, the minister followed a presentation on the six industrial units of the wilaya transferred to the Algerian Cement Industrial Group (GICA), after their recovery through legal channels. The group’s managers detailed the steps taken and the obstacles encountered for the rehabilitation of these units, including the Fenoughil brickworks, with a view to their restarting within the allotted time frame.

According to the explanations provided, all technical procedures have been finalized for the brickworks, awaiting its connection to electricity over a distance of 40 km and its gas supply, once the technical commission’s assessments have been completed. The minister urged relevant parties to speed up the electricity connection works and ensure compliance with quality standards in production.

The minister then went to Tamentit, where he visited the integrated cotton production group, covering a total area of 5,000 hectares and now attached to the public group Agrodiv. On site, he called on those responsible for the project to develop a rigorous action plan and to mobilize the necessary expertise to enable rapid production, while emphasizing the urgency of connection to the electricity network. This project, estimated at 8 billion DA, includes 4,000 hectares dedicated to cotton cultivation with a processing unit, as well as an agricultural area of 1,000 hectares reserved for fruits and vegetables, equipped with a processing unit. It should generate 300 direct and 750 indirect jobs, according to the data provided.

It is currently the subject of a complete study and comprehensive rehabilitation aimed at relaunching integrated agricultural and industrial activity in the field of cotton production, a strategic raw material for the national textile industries. An economic and technical feasibility study of the project was also addressed, with a focus on know-how transfer and training, in cooperation with the Spanish partner “LS ALCANTARA SYSTEM”, in order to ensure the qualification of local skills and enable them to manage and operate the industrial agricultural farm according to modern technical standards.

Operations will include a field diagnosis of wells to ensure their availability for agricultural purposes, as well as the rehabilitation of hydraulic networks and the connection of the farm to the electricity network, in order to ensure the continuity of industrial and agricultural activity. The minister’s visit continues with an inspection of the GICA group cement plant in Timegtène, where the minister reaffirmed the importance of reviving local industrial capacities to support the region’s economic dynamics.
