An important pillar for tourism

Inaugurating the 26th edition of the International Crafts Fair (SIAT), the Minister of Tourism and Crafts, Ms. Houria Meddahi, indicated that the State pays particular attention to crafts adding that this edition reflects the special attention that the State pays to crafts, in a national context marked by the renewal of the economic vision adopted by the high authorities of the country.

Speaking at the opening of the 26th edition of SIAT, organized at the Moufdi-Zakaria Palace of Culture, in the presence of several members of the Government and representatives of the diplomatic corps accredited in Algeria, Ms. Meddahi indicated that this edition was placed under the slogan ”Algerian craftsmanship, heritage, authenticity and artistic creativity”. The minister stressed that craftsmanship has become “one of the essential pillars for boosting domestic tourism and an economic lever that creates wealth and jobs,” Ms. Meddahi specified that craftwork “is much more than a simple economic activity, since it embodies the cultural identity and living heritage of the country.”

In this regard, the ministry ensures that it supports artisans within the framework of “a strategy adapted to technical and regulatory developments”, by putting in place “integrated axes to strengthen training, qualification, support and financing”, through the creation of a digital platform for crafts, the objective of which is to “facilitate administrative procedures and allow artisans to register for training sessions and participate in national and international fairs”, she declared.

After recalling the particular importance that President Abdelmadjid Tebboune attaches to digitalization, the minister indicated that “the digital card of the artisan has been generalized to facilitate access of this category to services”, in addition to the establishment of a “label of quality and authenticity to protect artisanal products and promote the Algerian artisanal product on national and international markets”.

Regarding support for artisans in the field of promotion and digital marketing, Ms. Meddahi spoke of the organization of training sessions on a national scale aimed at “qualifying and developing the skills of artisans so that they acquire new techniques, allowing them to transform their ideas and know-how into sustainable projects capable of contributing to the improvement of their social conditions”.
