“Commercial relations between Algeria and Russia have seen notable progress”

The Secretary General of the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Export Promotion, Abdeslam Djahnit, affirmed, Tuesday in Algiers, that commercial relations between Algeria and Russia have experienced notable progress, supported, he indicated, by a firm political will and a growing strategic partnership. a common goal to increase trade to $10 billion by the end of the decade,” he continued.
Speaking at the opening of the work of the Algerian-Russian Business Forum, organized in Algiers, under the aegis of the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Export Promotion, in coordination with the Algerian-Russian Business Council and the Russian Embassy in Algeria, Abdeslam Djahnit considered that the Forum constitutes an opportunity to intensify coordination and joint action in order to exploit the potential available in the two countries in the sectors of industry, technologies, medicines, digital transformation, the development of artificial intelligence solutions, as well as intelligent agriculture. Stressing the need to intensify efforts to expand economic cooperation relations to new areas.
For his part, the director of promotion and support for economic exchanges at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, National Community Abroad and African Affairs, Rabah Fassih, highlighted the importance of this type of meetings aimed at identifying and exploring investment and partnership opportunities in unconventional sectors, such as renewable energies, modern technologies, digitalization and ICT. Calling, on the occasion, the economic operators of the two countries to take full advantage of the available opportunities, particularly within the framework of the reforms undertaken by Algeria to improve the business climate, stressing that the volume of trade remains below existing potential.
“It is necessary to increase Algerian exports to the Russian market in order to achieve a balance of trade and build a sustainable economic model, creating wealth and jobs,” he said. For his part, the president of the Algerian-Russian Business Council, Ahmed Azimov, highlighted the role of the Council, recently created, in the context of strengthening bilateral economic cooperation relations, in particular by allowing economic operators from the two countries to carry out reciprocal visits involving nearly 500 companies, initiatives which should lead to the signing of agreements for the export of Algerian products to Russia in the near future. Noting that this meeting offers an opportunity for economic operators from both countries to overcome obstacles and explore new areas capable of paving the way for increased cooperation and partnership as well as the exchange of expertise between the two parties.
Finally, the first counselor of the Russian embassy in Algeria, Alexy Kocheshkov, for his part, called for redoubled efforts to increase the volume of trade which does not reflect the available potential. Evoking, in passing, the historical depth of relations between the two countries in several areas.
