The historical relations between Algeria and Zimbabwe dating back to the time of the common struggle against colonialism are further strengthened today. Yesterday Wednesday, Army General and Chief of Staff of the People’s National Army (ANP), Saïd Chanegriha met, at the headquarters of the Ministry of National Defense in Algiers, his Zimbabwean counterpart, the Minister of Defense and Veterans Affairs of the Republic of Zimbabwe, Oppah Muchinguri-Kashiri, as part of a strengthening of military work between the two African countries. Indeed, the Minister Delegate to the Minister of National Defense, Chief of Staff of the People’s National Army (ANP), Army General Saïd Chanegriha, received, yesterday Wednesday in Algiers, the Minister of Defense and Veterans Affairs of the Republic of Zimbabwe, Oppah Muchinguri-Kashiri, who is visiting Algeria, at the head of a large military delegation, indicates a press release from the Ministry of National Defense (MDN). Present at this meeting, the Commander of the Land Forces, the Secretary General of the MDN, the Commander of the Republican Guard, the Force Commanders, the Director of Cabinet at the MDN, the Acting Commander of the National Gendarmerie, the heads of departments, the Controller General of the Army and central directors of the General Staff of the ANP and the MDN, in addition to members of the Zimbabwean military delegation, specifies the press release. During this meeting, the two parties reviewed the state of bilateral military cooperation, as well as the ways and means of strengthening it. They also discussed security challenges around the world, particularly in Africa, and exchanged points of view on various issues of common interest,” adds the same source. On this occasion, the Army General delivered a speech in which “he welcomed the Zimbabwean minister”, emphasizing that his visit to Algeria “reflected the depth of the fraternal and historical ties which unite the people of the two countries to consolidate the bilateral cooperation processes, particularly in the field of defense and security”. In his speech, the Army General recalled that “the two countries, Algeria and Zimbabwe, continued, following their independence, to support the fight to free all of Africa from colonial yoke and racial segregation.” Furthermore, the Army General stressed that “Algeria considers the Republic of Zimbabwe as a reliable partner”, expressing “the conviction that the densification of bilateral military cooperation will represent one of the main foundations of the partnership process established between the two friendly countries”.
