African start-ups in the spotlight.
Algeria is preparing to host, from December 6 to 8, the fourth edition of the African Start-up Conference (ASC), a major meeting under the patronage of the President of the Republic, Abdelmadjid Tebboune. Under the theme “Raising African Champions”, this edition aims to affirm the driving role of African start-ups in the economic transformation of the continent.
This year, the event will honor the Republic of Rwanda, guest country of this edition, recognized for the vigor of its innovation ecosystem and its leadership in African digital transformation. More than 40 ministerial delegations, 300 experts, 200 investors, 200 exhibitors, and nearly 25,000 visitors are expected.
During a press conference held Thursday in Algiers, the Minister of the Knowledge Economy, Startups and Micro-enterprises, Noureddine Ouadah, indicated that the ASC 2025 will be held “in continuation of the success recorded by the previous edition of the Intra-African Trade Fair, IATF 2025”, which was held in Algiers last September. He stressed that during the work of the conference, the financing of 30 African start-ups that participated in the IATF will be officially materialized according to a roadmap already established, in accordance with the directives of the President of the Republic aimed at supporting young African project leaders.
Furthermore, a support and training program will be launched for the benefit of African students residing in Algeria in order to strengthen entrepreneurship, leadership and innovation among African youth. According to the same manager.
Several meetings are planned in the program, namely the Ministerial Conference bringing together more than 40 African ministers as well as representatives of the African Union who will discuss public policies likely to promote the emergence of innovative ecosystems and “African champions”. It is also the Government – Champions Summit, which takes the form of a strategic dialogue bringing together government officials and leading startup founders to define a common vision of African entrepreneurship and inspire a new generation of leaders, Ouadah said. Additionally, an Investors Summit is planned to bring together private equity fund managers and institutional investors to explore investment opportunities in Africa.
In this sense, African start-ups will present their innovations in the sectors of artificial intelligence, fintech, agritech, green technologies and digital health. Sessions will also be organized to explore investment opportunities in the Algerian and African markets. The event will also bring together ministers, international organizations, start-ups, investors, founders and technology leaders to discuss the future of African innovation and strengthen continental cooperation.
Towards a model plan for the best public policies
The 2025 edition also aims to consolidate the achievements of previous conferences. During the ministerial summit, the draft Algiers Declaration on the development of start-ups in Africa will be presented, in addition to the draft model plan of the best public policies for the development of African start-ups.
According to the minister’s explanations, these documents will be submitted for study, enriched then validated by African ministers before their transmission to the African Union for official adoption.
Furthermore, by highlighting entrepreneurs who transform challenges into growth opportunities, ASC 2025 wishes to build an African economy based on creativity, ambition and innovation, the objective of which is to inspire a new generation of entrepreneurs, to strengthen the technological sovereignty of the continent and to bring out the “African champions” of tomorrow.
Additionally, a dedicated mobile app and web platform will allow participants to register electronically, follow the full program, book B2B meetings, interact with experts and make foreign currency payments, to provide a modern and seamless experience. According to the organizers, the platform will also integrate access management via QR codes, sending instant notifications and access to post-event content, making the conference a model of digital organization in Africa.
