The Minister of State, Minister of Hydrocarbons and Mines, Mohamed Arkab, received the day before yesterday Sunday in Algiers the Ambassador of the Sultanate of Oman to Algeria, Saif Rashid Al-Badai, to examine the prospects for strengthening bilateral cooperation in the hydrocarbons and mining sectors, indicates a press release from the ministry.
The meeting, held at the ministry’s headquarters in the presence of sector executives, was an opportunity to take stock of the current state of cooperation and to discuss its future development. The growing interest of Omani companies in investing in Algeria was at the center of discussions, citing in particular the company Abraj Energy Services, the Suhail Bahwan Holding group and the Mohammed Al Barwani (MB) Holding group, via its subsidiary Petrogas, as well as other Omani players active in hydrocarbons and mining. Discussions also focused on the implementation of two study agreements signed between the National Agency for the Development of Hydrocarbon Resources (ALNAFT) and Petrogas, concerning the assessment of the hydrocarbon potential in the Touggourt and Berkine basins, on the sidelines of the 13th edition of the international exhibition “Africa & Mediterranean Energy & Hydrogen Exhibition and Conference” (NAPEC 2025) in Oran. The two sides explored cooperation opportunities in the fields of exploration, field development, well services and oil and gas industries. They also raised the possibility of extending the partnership to the mining sector, in particular for projects linked to the exploitation and processing of phosphate, as well as the production of phosphoric acid and phosphate fertilizers. During this meeting, Minister Arkab reaffirmed Algeria’s commitment, in accordance with the directives of President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, to strengthen economic cooperation with the Sultanate of Oman and to expand existing partnerships in energy and processing industries, for the benefit of the two brotherly countries. This initiative is part of the ongoing dynamic of fraternal relations between Algeria and Oman, confirming the strategic importance of the hydrocarbon and mining sectors for bilateral trade.
