La SG du ministère français des affaires étrangeres ce jeudi à Alger – Le Jeune Indépendant

The Secretary General of the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs Anne Marie Descôtes will visit Algiers this Thursday, November 20, to meet with her Algerian counterpart Lounas Magramane on ways to relaunch diplomatic cooperation between the two countries, a government source in Paris told Le Jeune Indépendant this Wednesday.

This visit should pave the way for a return to normal between Algiers and Paris following the diplomatic crisis which has shaken them since July 2024.

According to the same source, the discussions between Magramane and Descôtes will focus, among other things, on the resumption of consular work, in particular the accreditation of consular agents from the two countries waiting to officially join their posts.

There will also be discussion of the establishment of a road map on pending issues including the return of the ambassadors of the two countries, visits by French Interior Minister Laurent Nunez and the issue of Algerians under an obligation to leave French territory.

The same source did not specify whether Ms. Descôtes will be received by the head of Algerian diplomacy Ahmed Attaf.

Anne Marie Descotes, 65, is a career diplomat and was notably ambassador to Berlin.
