Israeli tourist Sagi Mor from Klal Alon in the Golan was found dead off the coast of Ko Pha Ngan in Thailand, a day after he jumped into rough waters to save his young son from drowning. 

The family was walking near Chaloklum beach in northern Ko Pha Ngan when the boy was pulled out by a powerful wave. Mor jumped in, managed to bring his son safely back toward shore, and then was swept away by high waves and strong currents as he tried to get out of the water. 

Thai rescue forces, local volunteers and many Israelis living or traveling on the island launched extensive sea and shoreline searches through the night and into the morning, until Mor’s body was located.  Israel’s embassy in Bangkok and the Foreign Ministry are assisting his wife and four children and working with Thai authorities to return his body to Israel. 

Friends and community members describe Mor as a devoted father whose final act was saving his child’s life. Israeli volunteers on the island say the bereaved family is being closely supported as they absorb the devastating loss.
