L’Algérie anticipe les besoins du Ramadhan – Le Jeune Indépendant

Consumer products: Algeria anticipates Ramadan needs

A proactive mechanism.

The month of Ramadhan, synonymous with increased growth of a wide range of consumer products, is already being prepared in Algeria. To avoid any shortage or market disruption, the Ministry of Domestic Trade and National Market Regulation has already taken the lead. Amel Abdellatif announced the establishment of a proactive mechanism to guarantee, among other things, the availability of red and white meats during the month of fasting.

In this same vein, a meeting of the monitoring unit, responsible for monitoring the market supply of consumer products, was held on Thursday at the ministry’s headquarters, in particular to ensure the availability of products which are experiencing a strong increase during the month of Ramadhan.

Meat import operations will be carried out through the commitment of operators to supply the market with initial quantities of approximately 30,000 tonnes to be imported during the period from January 15 to March 15, 2026, the minister said on Thursday during a plenary session at the National People’s Assembly. These imports are part of a rigorous plan aimed at guaranteeing the supply of the national market and regulating prices, developed in coordination with the Ministries of Agriculture and Foreign Trade, added the minister who reported a series of meetings held with meat importers, which resulted in the signing of official commitments for compliance with a precise supply program covering demand. The State has mobilized all tax and customs mechanisms to facilitate import operations during periods of high demand, particularly in the run-up to religious holidays, she said.

The meeting of the monitoring unit, which was held under the chairmanship of the secretary general of the ministry, El Hadi Bakir, was attended by representatives of several sectors directly involved, each at their level of competence, in the market regulation operation throughout the year, and particularly during the month of Ramadhan during which eating habits and needs for widely consumed products experience a real change. This is why the meeting of the monitoring unit responsible for monitoring the market supply of consumer products was extended to the secretaries general of the ministries of Foreign Trade and Export Promotion, Agriculture and Rural Development, as well as those of Finance and Industry.

The meeting was devoted to assessing the availability of widely consumed products, particularly those experiencing increasing demand during the month of Ramadhan, and examining the proactive measures necessary to ensure their availability as well as regular supply to the market.

It was agreed, during this meeting, to “strengthen coordination between the ministerial sectors concerned” to ensure market stability and the availability of essential products, assured the Ministry of Internal Trade.

The mobilization is already effective so that no unpleasant surprises come to disturb consumers during the month of fasting when there is strong demand for practically all widely consumed products.
