The Minister of Internal Trade and National Market Regulation, Amel Abdellatif, announced Thursday in Algiers the establishment of a mechanism intended to ensure the availability of red and white meats during the month of Ramadhan 2026. Operators have committed to supplying the market with an initial quantity of 29,545 tonnes.
During a plenary at the National People’s Assembly (APN) devoted to oral questions, the minister specified that this quantity will be imported between January 15 and March 15, 2026. This operation is part of a “rigorous plan aimed at guaranteeing the supply of the national market and regulating prices”. This plan was developed with the Ministries of Agriculture and Foreign Trade. She indicated that several meetings took place with importers and that these led to written commitments to respect a supply program covering demand.
The minister explained that the State has activated tax and customs mechanisms to facilitate imports during periods of high demand. The 2026 Finance Bill also provides for an exceptional preferential regime exempting from taxes imports of livestock intended for slaughter, in order to support price stability.
