The Minister of Internal Trade and National Market Regulation, Amel Abdelatif, announced, Thursday in Algiers, the receipt of 8 mobile laboratories manufactured in Algeria and equipped with cutting-edge equipment, in order to strengthen the control of imported products.
During a plenary of the National People’s Assembly (APN), chaired by Mouaz Ahmed, vice-president of the APN, devoted to oral questions, in the presence of the Minister of Relations with Parliament, Ms. Nadjiba Djilali, Ms. Abdelatif specified that “in accordance with the instructions of the President of the Republic, aimed at strengthening laboratory control action, eight mobile laboratories of Algerian manufacture and equipped with advanced equipment were received with a view to strengthening product control imported and local in the field. The minister also affirmed that the national structure of laboratories represents the backbone of the control system, especially since the sector has 42 active laboratories reporting to the Algerian Center for Quality and Packaging Control (CACQE), in addition to the National Testing Laboratory specializing in the control of industrial products.
The analysis capacity of these laboratories amounts to 20,000 samples per year and an increase is expected with the entry into service of new laboratories, she noted. In this context, Ms. Abdelatif indicated that the ministry’s services took, during the first 10 months of the current year, 13,826 samples of food and non-food products, with a view to submitting them to microbiological and physicochemical analyzes and industrial tests.
According to the minister, the results revealed the conformity of 11,816 samples, or a rate of 85.5%, “which reflects a notable development in terms of compliance by operators with technical and health rules”.
In addition, 142,816 verifications were carried out using portable measuring instruments, which enabled the rapid detection of 3,861 cases of non-compliance, according to the minister.
She stressed that quality control is not a simple administrative formality, but a strategic choice adopted by the State to protect its economy, preserve consumer rights and strengthen the process of sustainable development”, welcoming “the notable improvement in the quality of the Algerian product and the increase in the level of consumer confidence”.
