The Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Kamel Baddari, reaffirmed his department’s commitment to consolidating the place of the Arabic language within the national university system.
The minister indicated this Friday, during a plenary session at the National People’s Assembly (APN), devoted Thursday to oral questions addressed to members of the government, that the sector “has spared no effort to promote the use of the Arabic language at the level of university establishments”, echoing the State’s orientations in terms of preserving linguistic and identity heritage.
In this context, Baddari highlighted the creation of the Scientific and Technical Research Center for the Development of the Arabic Language (CRSDTLA), a structure whose mission is to develop theoretical and applied research aimed at modernizing and enriching the Arabic language.
Thus, the center works in coordination with organizations specializing in terminology standardization and works to develop research projects in language sciences, as well as linguistic technologies applied to the Arabic language and widely spoken languages. The objective is to strengthen the presence of Arabic in the educational, scientific and technological fields, recalled the minister.
The minister also reported the publication of 848 scientific journals in Arabic between 2020 and 2025, an indicator which demonstrates the growing interest of the academic community in research in Arabic.
At the same time, the use of the Arabic language in university governance is experiencing notable progression, illustrated by the establishment of 69 digital platforms in Arabic, as well as by the development of the “Progres” management system in this language.
While recalling the national, cultural and identity dimension of the Arabic language, Baddari underlined the importance for the higher education sector to remain open to foreign languages.
According to him, “linguistic diversity allows the teacher and the student to understand all the developments underway”, thus illustrating a balanced approach aimed at strengthening mastery of the Arabic language, while maintaining a high level of integration in international scientific spaces.
In response to a question concerning the improvement of university services, in particular the opening of new university transport lines, the minister highlighted the continuation of efforts to develop this area, in order to provide students with suitable conditions allowing them to devote themselves to their academic success.
