In these times of harsh winter weather, calls are made to citizens to redouble and raise the level of caution and vigilance, and apply and respect safety instructions, in order to preserve their lives and avoid the damage that may be generated. Thus, the General Directorate of Civil Protection calls, in a press release, on citizens to show greater vigilance and caution and to observe the necessary safety instructions, following the BMS, forecasting heavy rainfall in several wilayas of the country.
Road users are urged to reduce the speed of their vehicles, turn on lights even in broad daylight and keep a safe distance while avoiding dangerous maneuvers. Civil Protection reminded citizens of “the need to stay away from the wadis”, insisting on “the need to raise children’s awareness of the danger of going close to them and crossing rivers in flood and also to avoid risk areas such as tunnels, bridges and all places likely to be quickly flooded”.
It is also recommended, according to the press release, to “accompany children to school, favoring the safest routes and remaining vigilant regarding the possible presence of electric cables on the roadway”. Regarding domestic security, Civil Protection recommends “cutting off electricity and gas in the event of water infiltration inside homes and providing, for emergency lighting, means that do not require an electrical supply such as lamps, torches or spare batteries”. Given the drop in temperatures, it is advisable to “regularly ventilate homes when using heating or water heaters, in order to avoid carbon monoxide poisoning”.
For its part, the National Company for the Marketing and Distribution of Petroleum Products (Naftal) announced the mobilization of all of its human and material resources in order to guarantee the supply of butane to citizens, an essential resource during the winter season. Naftal explained that its operations have been intensified, with an increase in its capacity and the strengthening of its field teams responsible for supply, in order to guarantee regular and continuous availability of gas cylinders. Naftal stressed that mountainous regions and remote villages are a top priority, particularly due to harsh weather conditions that can hamper access for its teams, and has taken steps to address this and ensure continued service.
