L’Algérie présentera sa transformation industrielle – Le Jeune Indépendant


Considered one of the main global platforms dedicated to the development of industrial policies, the General Conference of the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) opens today in Riyadh, capital of Saudi Arabia, with the participation of Algeria. An opportunity to highlight the Algerian experience in industrial transformation, development of traditional and renewable energies, as well as the exploitation of mining resources

It is the Minister of State, Minister of Hydrocarbons and Mines, Mohamed Arkab, who represents Algeria at the 21e session of the UNIDO Conference which takes place from 23 to 27 November, at the head of a large delegation. The latter is made up of representatives of the hydrocarbons, mining and industry sectors, the Algerian ambassador to Austria, the Algerian ambassador to Saudi Arabia, the president of the National Agency for Mining Activities, as well as senior executives from the sectors concerned. This was indicated by the minister in a press release, emphasizing the importance of this participation.

“This participation represents an opportunity to highlight Algerian experience in industrial transformation, development of traditional and renewable energies, as well as exploitation of mining resources,” said the Minister of Hydrocarbons. Algeria’s participation comes, according to the same source, in a context where the country is working to strengthen its international presence and consolidate its position as a reliable partner in the fields of industry, energy and mines, in accordance with the national orientation aimed at diversifying the economy, building a sustainable industrial base and developing international partnerships based on mutual interest.

Algeria’s presence will also be marked by the participation of the Minister of Hydrocarbons on the sidelines of the General Conference, in a session under the theme: “Unleashing the potential of clean hydrogen through investment and innovation”.

“This meeting will highlight the growing role of clean hydrogen in supporting sustainable industrial development, with an emphasis on innovation, financing mechanisms and strengthening interregional cooperation,” according to details from the ministry, which announced the official launch, during this session, of the UNIDO Global Clean Hydrogen Program, supported by the Global Environment Facility (GEF-8), and which will be implemented in nine partner countries, including Algeria.

Bilateral meetings with ministers and government officials, as well as with leaders of global companies and international organizations, are also included in the agenda of the Minister of Hydrocarbons, with a view to examining cooperation opportunities in the fields of industry, mining, oil and gas, technology transfer, financing and development of major structuring projects in Algeria.

The exceptional character of the 21e session of the UNIDO Conference was also noted, as it takes the form of a “Global Industry Summit” (GIS 2025), with the participation of heads of state and government, ministers, senior officials, as well as major leaders of international industrial institutions.

This conference constitutes, according to the same source, one of the main global platforms dedicated to the development of industrial policies, which will be marked by representatives of the 173 member states who meet to “discuss the prospects for sustainable industrial development, digital transformation, green industry, the circular economy, the strengthening of equitable value chains, as well as industrial cooperation with developing and middle-income countries”.

Participants will also examine new financing mechanisms for industrial projects and programs, as well as solutions to strengthen technical cooperation and the exchange of expertise in the management of large projects.

The United Nations Industrial Development Organization, based in Vienna, is the UN agency specializing in supporting and accelerating sustainable industrial development on a global scale, it was explained.

UNIDO focuses its action on main areas including the eradication of poverty through industry, the development of clean energy, the construction of sustainable value chains, technology transfer, the strengthening of human capacities and support for innovation.
