Algeria mobilizes national expertise to deliver the line before the end of 2025

The Minister of Public Works and Basic Infrastructure, Abdelkader Djellaoui, carried out a decisive inspection visit to the wilaya of Tindouf the day before yesterday, Saturday. The objective was to assess the progress of the strategic project of the western mining railway line, a vital axis intended to connect the Gara Djebilet (Tindouf) deposit to Béchar, via Béni Abbès. The minister affirmed that the project will be completed before the end of 2025, allowing commissioning from the beginning of 2026, in accordance with the clear instructions of the President of the Republic,
Mr. Abdelmadjid Tebboune.
During his visit, Mr. Djellaoui received, at the project base in Tindouf, a detailed technical briefing on the progress of the work. He took this opportunity to recall the strategic significance of this railway line. This is considered a major economic asset for the country, as it will ensure the connection of mining production areas to the national transport network, thus contributing significantly to the boost of economic development throughout the western region. The minister stressed that the mobilization of all necessary resources is imperative to meet the set deadlines, reflecting the strong political commitment behind this major project.
Continuing his inspection, Mr. Djellaoui went to the Tindouf railway station (at kilometer point 811) where he examined the installations currently being built. He particularly insisted to companies on strict compliance with technical and quality standards, as well as the need to accelerate the pace of work to guarantee the delivery of the station in accordance with the planned schedule.
On the ground, particularly on the route between kilometer points 805 and 785, the minister supervised the rail laying work. Firm instructions were given to the carrying out companies, including Cosider Travaux Publics, ”Seror” and ”Sapta”, for maximum mobilization, including continuous work, 24 hours a day. The technical services presented a very encouraging report. Concerning the laying of the rails, 750 km have already been completed, with the remaining 200 km progressing at a steady pace. The minister welcomed the fact that 380 km of rails were laid in 45 days, an average of 8.7 km per day, a performance which he attributed to national expertise. He specified that the remaining 200 km will be laid in 40 days.
Concerning the structures, of the 45 structures (bridges in particular) planned along the line, 42 have been received. The last three, whose progress is very significant, will be completed over the next week. Mr. Djellaoui’s visit, which continues to inspect other sections, confirms the Government’s determination to ensure that this strategic axis, supported by national skills and capacities, is operational within the allotted time frame.
