A long-serving Namibian councillor, Adolf Hitler Uunona, is once again expected to win big in his rural Ompundja constituency. The Swapo politician first went viral in 2020 after a landslide victory but at home is seen mainly as an entrenched local power, not a meme.
He says his father likely didn’t understand the history behind the name and stresses he rejects Nazi ideology, yet the prospect of “Adolf Hitler” back on the ballot is reigniting global debate over memory, colonialism and the Holocaust.
