The President of the Republic, Brahim Ghali, reminded the leaders of the two continents that the Sahrawi question is still awaiting decolonization, being the last colony in Africa.
In his speech before the 7th AU-EU Summit, held in Luanda, Angola, the Sahrawi leader stressed that the two organizations are called to play a decisive role in the decolonization process and to put an end to the injustice suffered by the people of Western Sahara.
“An African people, the Sahrawi people, who are fighting with patience and perseverance, waiting for you and the international community to allow them to exercise their legitimate, inalienable and imprescriptible right to self-determination and independence, like the rest of the people of Africa and the world,” said the Sahrawi president.
Thus, according to the Sahrawi leader, the European Union is called upon to play an effective role in establishing peace, in order to put an end to wars and devastating armed conflicts in Africa, in full respect of international law, international humanitarian law, European law and the sacred right of peoples to self-determination and sovereignty over their natural resources.
Furthermore, the Sahrawi Minister of Foreign Affairs and African Affairs, Mohamed Yeslem Beissat, underlined that “the participation of the Sahrawi Republic in the African Union-European Union Summit consolidates the position of our country on the international scene”.
The summit is being held in a brother country with which we maintain privileged relations, at a delicate moment when the world is going through a situation of instability, he said in a press briefing.
The head of Sahrawi diplomacy estimated that the summit sessions were an opportunity for the Sahrawi delegation to have meetings and encounters with many African heads of state and government to exchange points of view and deepen relations.
