The Ministry of National Education has published the new price list for registration for the 2026 baccalaureate, sparking reactions from students and parents. This revision, which increases the fees for independent candidates based on their previous participations, is part of a policy aimed at the regulation and rigorous supervision of national exams, but it raises questions about the financial impact for certain families.
The education advisor, Kamel Nouari, insisted on the educational and institutional objective of this measure. He insisted on the importance of empowering candidates who multiply their participations without real educational follow-up. According to him, this tariff revision responds to a need for regulation and a concern for rigorous supervision.
For an educated candidate, the registration fees remain set at 1,500 DA, an amount considered reasonable for a first participation. On the other hand, the fees gradually increase for free candidates repeating the exam: up to 20,000 DA for a fifth attempt or more, or for holders of a previous baccalaureate attempting a fourth retake. “This increase is akin to a dissuasive measure, comparable to a financial sanction in the event of excessive repetition of failure. It constitutes a clear message addressed to parents, invited to support and monitor their children from the start of the school year in order to ensure optimal preparation,” explains Mr. Nouari.
“There is sufficient time to organize the revisions. Parental vigilance, supervision and monitoring are the keys to avoiding successive repetitions,” he adds. The advisor recalls that these price adjustments are part of executive decree 54/25, relating to the special status of education personnel. This text governs the participation of teachers and executives in the organization of the baccalaureate: supervision, secretarial work, correction, presidency of examination or correction centers.
The increase in registration fees will also improve the compensation paid to participants mobilized for the national exam. Mr. Nouari also highlights several worrying findings concerning independent candidates, in particular a high rate of absenteeism and a proportion of fraud higher than that observed among educated candidates. In addition, he notes that a significant part of these registrants are workers whose main objective is to obtain days off, without any real intention of taking the exam, a situation aggravated by the fact that certain employees in the education sector would register themselves to avoid their mobilization during supervision, thus escaping the pressures of parents seeking to obtain facilities to encourage fraud. He also recalls the importance of Law 06/20, relating to the Penal Code, chapter 7 of which protects the integrity of exams and competitions, thus guaranteeing the credibility and transparency of the baccalaureate.
For candidates who have never obtained the baccalaureate, the fees applied during the next sessions remain reasonable, i.e. 3,000 DA for a first or second free participation. For baccalaureate holders wishing to improve their average or change sector, the fees amount to 5,000 DA. “They are most often university students. These amounts remain accessible and can be covered by parents,” concludes Mr. Nouari.
However, it must be remembered that until last year, the Baccalaureate registration fees for independent candidates followed a simpler structure, namely 1,500 DA for regular enrolled candidates, 3,000 DA for those previously not admitted, and 5,000 DA for those already holding the diploma.
The 2026 grid has undergone changes, specifically targeting those who are re-applying after having already obtained the baccalaureate. The latter see their financial contribution increase depending on the number of attempts. For the second time after obtaining the diploma, the registration fees for the baccalaureate now amount to 5,000 DA. This amount doubles for the third attempt, reaching 10,000 DA. Finally, for the fourth and subsequent times, the cost rises to an unprecedented level of 20,000 DA.
