Algeria will throw its diplomatic weight behind it.

On the occasion of the monthly meeting of the Security Council devoted to the Middle East, Algeria’s permanent ambassador to the UN, Amar Bendjama, painted a gloomy picture of a humanitarian and security situation which “continues to deteriorate”. He condemned the Zionist occupier’s repeated and recurring violations of the ceasefire agreement in the Gaza Strip.

The diplomat recalled that, despite this ceasefire having been in force for more than a month, more than 300 Palestinians (including many children and women) have been killed, describing these attacks as “brutal and incessant”. He denounced a “total disregard for commitments and mediators”, accusing the Zionist entity of ignoring the guarantors of the road map for peace.

According to him, from Lebanon to Syria, via Gaza and the West Bank, agreements are violated “without consequence”, while the inhabitants continue to pay a heavy price. Practically, these Zionist violations are reported daily, further proof of the impunity enjoyed by the Zionist hordes and the paralysis of UN institutions and the international community in the face of the excesses of the Zionist entity.

Regarding the humanitarian disaster unfolding in Gaza, the diplomat warned of the dramatic conditions in which the Palestinians are surviving, with the approach of a harsh winter, homeless families, children “trembling from the cold”, thousands of people crammed into soggy tents.

He also drew attention to the West Bank, where the escalation of settler violence, supported by the Israeli army, has reached an “unprecedented” level. Fires of houses and mosques, destruction of olive fields, attacks. So many acts that Mr. Bendjama described as a “process of ethnic cleansing”, aimed at obstructing the establishment of a future Palestinian state.

The Algerian representative insisted, in his intervention, on the need for a real commitment to preserve the ceasefire, the total and immediate opening of crossing points in order to transport humanitarian aid and reconstruction materials without hindrance, the importance of establishing criminal liability for documented crimes, believing that “war crimes must not go unpunished”.

He also called for correcting the historical injustice suffered by the Palestinian people, recalling that lasting peace cannot be envisaged without the creation of an independent Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital.

Amar Bendjama affirmed that the suffering of the Palestinian people “places us all before a historic responsibility”, urging the Security Council to act to guarantee justice and dignity to a people who have suffered for decades.
