The Minister of State, Minister of Foreign Affairs, National Community Abroad and African Affairs, Ahmed Attaf, met, the day before yesterday, Tuesday, in Luanda (Angola), with several of his counterparts, on the sidelines of the 7th Summit of Cooperation and Partnership between the African Union (AU) and the European Union (EU), which was held on November 24 and 25 in Luanda (Angola), indicated the ministry. “The meeting allowed the two parties to exchange views and analyzes on developments in the situation in the Sahel at the political, security and economic levels and to examine the prospects for strengthening cooperation and coordination with a view to supporting efforts aimed at establishing security and stability in this regional space,” Ahmed Attaf’s department said.
Ahmed Attaf, noted the same source, reviewed with the president of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), Odile Renaud-Basso, the cooperative relations between Algeria, shareholder of the EBRD, and this financial institution, as well as their future prospects.
“Ms. Renaud-Basso said she was willing to support Algeria’s efforts in diversifying the national economy, particularly through the development of the capacities and competitiveness of the private sector in important areas such as agriculture and renewable energies,” said the same source.
Ahmed Attaf and his Beninese counterpart, Olushegun Adjadi Bakari, the ministry added, reviewed bilateral relations, welcoming the recent exchange of diplomatic representation between the two countries.
“The two ministers also examined the developments in the situation in the Sahelo-Saharan space and the challenges posed which require combined efforts to meet them.”
With his Ivorian counterpart, Kacou Léon Adom, the minister reviewed relations between the two countries and agreed to launch preparations for the next session of the Algerian-Ivorian Joint Commission, we read in the ministry’s press release.
Noting that the meeting allowed the two parties to exchange views on the development of the situation in the Sahelo-Saharan region.
“The two parties stressed the importance of strengthening coordination between Algeria and Côte d’Ivoire, particularly within the framework of their status as members of the AU Peace and Security Council (PSC).
The talks with his Portuguese counterpart focused, according to the same source, on the importance of strengthening the positive dynamic experienced by bilateral relations, particularly in the context of preparing for the next events between the two countries. “The two ministers also discussed the means and prospects for strengthening the Afro-European partnership, in light of the conclusions of the Luanda Summit.”
Finally, with his Tunisian counterpart, Ahmed Attaf reviewed the ongoing preparations for the holding of the next session of the Algerian-Tunisian Joint Commission. Exchanging views on the developments of the situation in the brotherly state of Libya and the prospects of strengthening the role of neighboring countries in bringing together points of view between the different parties in this brotherly country.
