Tehran Admits F-35 ‘Kill’ Was Fake, Says Trust in State TV Is ‘Damaged’

Iran’s top state media boss has confessed that the regime’s triumphant claim to have shot down an Israeli F-35 was false – and that the lie badly hurt public trust in Iranian television. Peyman Jebeli, director general of IRIB, told students that state TV had broadcast the “downed F-35” story on the word of a single employee and later discovered it was unreliable. “We have damaged our credibility,” he admitted.

The walk-back comes after months of Iranian outlets boasting that air defenses had destroyed multiple Israeli F-35s during the Iran–Israel war, even claiming captured pilots, while the IDF consistently denied any losses and no independent evidence ever surfaced.

Fact-checkers have since exposed a wave of AI-generated images and even flight-simulator footage recycled online as supposed proof of F-35 wrecks in Iran, part of a wider disinformation blitz around the war designed to undermine confidence in Western weapons and inflate Tehran’s military image.
