Soaked in rain, Haredi Hashmonaim soldiers march 50 kilometers to the Kotel
In a scene straight out of Jewish history, the Haredi Hashmonaim Brigade trudged roughly 50 kilometers through driving rain overnight, arriving at the Kotel drenched, exhausted, and shouting “Am Yisrael Chai!” as they received their brown berets in a pre-dawn ceremony packed with families and supporters.
This is the second regular company of the new Haredi Hashmonaim Brigade to complete its beret march at the Western Wall, after eight months of intensive infantry training that has already included combat operations for earlier cohorts. The brigade was created as a full Haredi combat formation inside the IDF, with strict accommodation for Torah learning and religious standards alongside frontline service.
According to information shared with the soldiers and their families, the new fighters are slated to take up combat positions with the Yonatan Battalion on the Golan Heights; that deployment detail has not yet been independently confirmed. What is clear is that the Hashmonaim Brigade is being readied for real missions on Israel’s most sensitive fronts, not symbolic service.
