ISIS Training Plot Thwarted Before It Left Israel
Israel’s Security Agency (Shin Bet) and Israel Police say they arrested two residents of northern Israel suspected of swearing allegiance to ISIS and preparing to leave the country for terrorist instruction abroad.
Authorities identified the main suspect as Kinan Azaizeh, 20, from Daburiyya in the Jezreel Valley, alongside another suspect from Acre. Investigators say the pair maintained contact with an overseas ISIS-linked operative and took concrete preparatory steps, including a plan to travel through the United States for weapons training and then onward to an enemy state.
During questioning, investigators say Azaizeh studied how to manufacture pipe bombs and other explosives and planned to travel to Baghdad for training. Police also say he surveilled IDF soldiers near his hometown, allegedly looking for an opportunity to steal a weapon and carry out an attack.
Prosecutors have filed an indictment against Azaizeh in the Nazareth District Court, while the second suspect was placed in administrative detention, according to authorities. Security services warn that ISIS-inspired radicalization and “self-recruitment” online remain a live threat inside Israel — and this case was stopped before it could turn operational.
