🇦🇱🤝🇦🇪 — Albania has launched “Smart City Albania” a nationwide surveillance project that will install more than 5,000 AI-powered cameras across 20 cities, in collaboration with UAE.

PM Edi Rama, at the launch event, called the system a “magic eye” that sees everywhere at the same time and gathers all the necessary information.

He said Albania aims to become one of the world’s safest countries within two years

Rama joked that anyone planning wrongdoing would need to wear a burqa to escape the “eye”.

Critics have raised concerns that the project could lead to mass surveillance.
