The Turkish Ministry of Defense issued a provocative statement accusing Greece of being responsible for tensions and alleged violations in the Aegean. Ankara claims that “At the basis of the allegations of violations lies the inconsistency of the Greek approach regarding territorial waters and airspace, which has no precedent either today or historically,” insisting that Turkish flights occur strictly in international airspace.
Turkey downplayed the recent Israel–Greece–Cyprus trilateral summit, arguing it poses no threat but warning that actions “contrary to the spirit of the alliance” cannot alter realities in the Aegean and Eastern Mediterranean. Rear Admiral Zeki Akturk maintained that Greece—not Turkey—is escalating tensions, while portraying Ankara as committed to dialogue, stability, and international law.
The ministry also reaffirmed Turkey’s unwavering stance on the security and rights of the Turkish‑Cypriot pseudo‑state, emphasizing its readiness to continue exercising its guarantor powers.
