💔 Israel Mourns Officer Who Rushed Into Oct. 7 Gunfire and Saved Lives, Dies Months Later
Israel Police announced the death of Rn”g Itamar Elos (z”l), a Southern District officer from the Negev sector, who passed away from medical causes after recent hospitalization.
Elos became a symbol of raw courage during Hamas’s Oct. 7 massacre: hearing the shooting in Ofakim, he left home armed with his personal handgun, engaged the terrorists, helped rescue civilians and evacuate the wounded under fire, and was part of the effort that helped stop the killing spree in the city.
Police Commissioner Danny Levi said the force “bows its head” with the family, calling Elos “a symbol of courage, values, and contact engagement.” Elos had recently been awarded a higher rank for bravery at a Negev unit honors ceremony, and was promoted again following his death.
