REPORTS OF MANY PROTESTERS SHOT DEAD IN IRAN: Opposition journalist Ilia Hashemi reports that, based on conversations with eyewitnesses and a hospital surgeon in Tehran, the death toll from last night’s unrest in Tehran, Karaj, and Shahriar appears to be extremely high.

The surgeon said he remained in the operating room throughout the night and stated that the number of protesters killed “exceeds the toll of the 12-day war.” Iranian authorities previously claimed 1,060 fatalities during that conflict.
