🇮🇷Mass protests continue in Iran, which are increasingly turning into armed clashes.
In one of the videos published by BILD, it can be seen that protesters are dismantling street cameras and repainting street names, changing them to “Trump Street”.
The Center for Human Rights in Iran (CHRI) reports on hospitals in Tehran, Mashhad, and Karaj that are overflowing with injured people. According to human rights activists, at least 62 people have been killed in the protests, including 14 security force members and 48 protesters, and 2,300 demonstrators have been detained.
However, there is little accurate information about what is happening, as the internet has been shut down in Iran for more than a day.
Meanwhile, the authorities are strengthening control on the streets of Tehran. On one of the main highways of the Iranian capital, special security forces have set up checkpoints every 10 meters, which are manned by officers armed with Kalashnikov rifles.
The Financial Times quotes the mayor of Tehran, who claims that 26 banks, 25 mosques, and several buildings associated with the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps were attacked in the capital.
Western leaders and diplomats fear that the Iranian authorities may use the internet shutdown, which began on Thursday, to suppress the protests.
The Supreme Leader of Iran, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, stated that the protesters are “harming the country”.
And the Secretary of the National Security Council of Iran, Ali Larijani, announced that “we are in the midst of a war. There has been no peace or ceasefire. The rebels are an urban quasi-terrorist group. Israel is behind the current situation.”
