🇺🇸🇮🇷The US is considering the possibility of providing military protection for oil and gas tankers passing through the Strait of Hormuz, according to Politico.
“Military support for oil and gas supplies,” a source told the publication, answering the question about the possibility of US naval ships escorting vessels passing through the strait.
“There is growing concern that energy markets may face pressure in the coming days as the military campaign intensifies and expands its geographical scope. Access to the Strait of Hormuz is obviously vital for both natural gas and crude oil supplies, especially from Qatar and Saudi Arabia,” he added.
Recall, Iran announced the closure of the Strait of Hormuz for all ships.
It should be noted that if the US provides military ships for the convoy of tankers, this will greatly increase the risk of their being hit by Iranian missiles. Currently, all US military ships have been withdrawn from the Persian Gulf to a distance from Iran in order to minimize the risk of effective strikes.
If American military ships enter the Strait of Hormuz, this risk will increase exponentially.
