Despite Bahrain pushing for normalization with Israel, the Bahraini public are generally pro-Iranian, Shia, and ethnically Persian. Bahrain nearly suffered an overthrow of government during the Arab Spring on the “Day of Rage,” led by pro-Iranian Shia groups before being crushed by the Saudi military.
