The national airline, Air Algérie has just received its first aircraft, an Airbus A330neo with 308 seats, 18 seats for business class, 24 in the economy class compartment and 266 seats in economy class, of which the first commercial flight to Montreal, Canada, is scheduled for next Saturday. It was, on the evening of Thursday, at the Houari-Boumédiene international airport in Algiers, during a ceremony chaired by the Minister of the Interior, Local Authorities and Transport, in the presence of the CEO of the company, Hamza Ben Hamouda, the Director General of Customs, Major General Abdelhafid Bekhouche, and the Secretary General of the General Union of Algerian Workers, Amar Tagjout.
Named ”November 54”, the aircraft, the ministry said in a press release, was acquired for the benefit of the national airline, Air Algérie, as part of the national fleet renewal program decided by the President of the Republic, Abdelmadjid Tebboune, aimed at developing the air transport service and extending the flight network to global destinations.
“The receipt of the plane represents a real start towards the realization of a global vision for the development of national air transport and the strengthening of Algeria’s position on the international scene, in application of the instructions of President Abdelmadjid Tebboune,” said Saïd Sayoud in his speech.
Stressing that the new program will allow the company to expand its flight network to African countries, Arab capitals and major cities around the world, and restore its competitive position internationally.
The fleet renewal program of the national airline, Air Algérie, continued the minister, responds to the growing demand for air transport and offers passengers better and more comfortable services, which requires creating new dynamism at the level of national airports through development and modernization projects.
Revealing, on the occasion, that the project to modernize the Algiers international airport will be launched as soon as possible.
“The state has allocated a considerable budget to transform it into a smart airport with world-class specifications and capable of keeping pace with the digital transformation of air transport services,” he said. For his part, the
CEO of the company, Hamza Ben Hamouda indicated that the receipt of this aircraft represents the start of a new phase in the development of the national fleet and a qualitative leap in the operational vision and future services of the company.
Noting that the launch of the fleet expansion and strengthening program takes place during the glorious month of November, the month of epics, the spirit of sacrifice and pride, where the greatness of the will and the sublimity of national belonging are manifested. “The integration of the new aircraft into the company’s fleet opens up greater possibilities for network development, opening new routes and strengthening connectivity between Algeria and its continental and international environment,” he continued.
The objective, he said, is to make Algiers airport a meeting and movement point, and an advanced transit space connecting Africa, Europe and Asia, according to a clear vision and a well-thought-out plan.
Stressing that the Air Algérie fleet currently includes 55 aircraft, to which are added 15 aircraft belonging to the national airline, and will be reinforced in the current phase by 16 new aircraft which will be received gradually, including two additional Airbus A330-900s, due to the high operational efficiency and low fuel consumption of this model.
