An Israeli airstrike earlier this month that eliminated senior Hamas commander Raed Saad also killed a key financial operative for the terror group, according to the Israel Defense Forces.
The operative, Abd al-Hayy Zaqout, was traveling with Saad when the vehicle was struck on December 13, IDF officials said. Zaqout served in Hamas’s finance division and played a central role in funding its military activities.
IDF Arabic-language spokesperson Avichay Adraee said Zaqout had overseen the raising and transfer of tens of millions of dollars over the past year, funneling the funds to Hamas’s armed wing to sustain its war against Israel.
