Arkab and his Senegalese counterpart express their ambition to boost bilateral cooperation

Investment opportunities and building a strategic energy partnership

The Minister of State, Minister of Hydrocarbons and Mines, Mohamed Arkab and the Minister of Energy, Oil and Mines of the Republic of Senegal, Birame Souleye Diop, welcomed, the day before yesterday Thursday, in Doha, the solidity of the historical ties between their countries, while expressing their ambition to raise bilateral cooperation to a multidimensional strategic level, integrating the sectors of hydrocarbons, mining and petrochemicals. This was, said a press release from the ministry, during a meeting on the sidelines of the 27th Ministerial Meeting of the Gas Exporting Countries Forum (GECF), in the presence of the Algerian Ambassador to the State of Qatar and executives from the sector, on the state and prospects of bilateral cooperation in the fields of hydrocarbons and mines, as well as investment and partnership opportunities in all stages of the energy value chain.
The two parties, said the same source, held an exchange of views on the state and prospects of cooperation between Algeria and Senegal, in the fields of hydrocarbons and mines.
They also reviewed investment and cooperation opportunities in all stages of the energy value chain, with a view to strengthening the added value of natural resources, particularly in the areas of exploration and development of hydrocarbons as well as in the petrochemical industry, continued the same source.
Noting that the discussions also focused on strengthening training and the exchange of expertise, in particular between the Algerian Institute of Petroleum (IAP) and the National Institute of Oil and Gas of Senegal (Inpg), not without underlining the importance of visits between companies operating in the hydrocarbon and mining sectors, in order to deepen consultations and identify concrete projects of cooperation and partnership.
On this occasion, the Minister of State, Minister of Hydrocarbons and Mines stressed the need to expand cooperation and intensify coordination between African countries, particularly within the framework of the African Petroleum Producers Organization (Appo), in order to ensure appropriate exploitation of resources, strengthen the continent’s energy security, meet the challenges of energy transition, promote local development of technologies and drain investments.
Insisting, in passing, on the importance of uniting African efforts in the face of the challenges of the global energy transition, recalling that the continent has the resources and human potential necessary to become a major player in the global energy future, provided that it focuses on integration and cooperation. For his part, the Minister of Energy, Oil and Mines of the Republic of Senegal, expressed his country’s great interest in taking advantage of the pioneering Algerian experience in the fields of prospecting, exploration, energy transition and executive training.
Highlighting, added the same source, the competence of Algerian human resources and the vast technical expertise of national companies, led by the Sonatrach group. Reaffirming Senegal’s commitment to building an African partnership with Algeria based on skills, technology and energy sovereignty, concluded the same source.
