The Minister of State, Minister of Energy, Mines and Renewable Energies, Mohamed Arkab, reaffirmed on Tuesday in Algiers, the commitment of Algeria to continue to support regional integration projects, at the forefront of which is the project of the Transsaharian gas pipeline, considered as a multidimensional strategic project, bearer of major socio-economic benefits and consolidating on the international scene. Petting forward the availability of Algeria to share its long experience with its African partners, in particular in the fields of exploration, industrialization and training, highlighting the central role of Sonatrach and Sonelgaz, as well as national actors, in the support of African countries to develop their energy systems, without forgetting the contribution of Algeria to the training of African skills.
It was, said a statement from the ministry during a meeting in its headquarters, with a delegation from the Investment and Development Bank (BIDC) of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), led by the Vice-President of the Bank, Mr. Olagunju Ashimolowo.
During which, continued the same source, the Minister stressed the importance of generalizing Algeria’s pioneering experience in the expansion of the use of liquefied oil (LPG) gas and propane gas tanks, as an effective means to supply the distant regions with gas.
This is a model that many African countries could benefit from in order to strengthen their energy security and serve their citizens in landlocked areas.
Presenting a presentation on the main development programs supervised by the sector, in particular in the fields of development, exploitation and transformation of hydrocarbons, transport and distribution of electricity, the valuation of mineral resources, as well as projects related to renewable energies and the regional electricity interconnection with neighboring African countries, Mohamed Arkab, noted the same source, noted the same source The importance of strengthening inter -African cooperation in the field of sustainable energy, and increasing the capacities of production and electrical interconnection, thus contributing to ensuring energy safety and promoting balanced development through the continent.
For their part, the members of the delegation of the Investment and Development Bank of the Economic Community of West African States have expressed their assessment for the vision of Algeria in terms of development, stressing its active regional role and its central position in strengthening continental integration.
In this regard, Ashimolowo has reaffirmed the bank’s interest in supporting and participating in the financing of major strategic projects, such as trans-Saharan gas pipeline and regional electrical interconnection projects, taking into account their importance for energy security and support for socio-economic development in Africa.
This meeting, indicated the same source, was an opportunity to examine the means of cooperation between Algeria and the Bank, especially in priority strategic fields such as energy and mines, in addition to the strengthening of regional integration in Africa, through support and contribution to the financing of major projects, including the Trans -Saharan gas pipeline (TSGP), solar energy projects, and electrical interconnection projects between African countries, the exploitation and transformation of mineral resources and the development of the agricultural fertilizer industry.
