As the timeline shifts from 3 days to Kyiv to 900 days to Kursk, when will the average russian citizen come to recognize that russia cannot win this war?

The invasion of Ukraine was intended to be rapid, with little resistance expected from Ukrainians. In the chaos of the early days, russia initially came dangerously close to achieving its goals, but subsequent events have been marked by a string of failures.

It is extremely important to note that despite a mobilization and over 500,000 casualties, russia has not succeeded in capturing a single regional capital or special status city out of the 23 that Ukraine controlled at the outset of the invasion.

russia’s failure extends beyond the military realm to the political sphere, with Finland and Sweden joining NATO in response to this illegal and unjust invasion, despite NATO enlargement being cited as the pretext for the invasion.

While russia struggles to achieve its objectives and faces an overheating economy, it also experiences humiliation on its own territory in Kursk. Despite this, Putin remains absent, as is often the case during times of crisis, attempting to deflect blame elsewhere.

The invasion represents an immense and woeful failure on both military and political fronts. At this juncture, there seems to be no salvation for russia. The only question remaining is how long they will persist in this folly.

Hopefully, the current situation compels russia to make drastic choices, such as implementing stricter restrictions, initiating a new mobilization, or further transitioning to a wartime economy. These decisions would expedite russia’s decline.

In order for the war to conclude, the average russian must grow weary of it and come to the realization that victory is unattainable. However, the average russian holds imperialistic views and is heavily influenced by propaganda, rendering this process a slow one.

However, as people in major cities become mobilized, casualties rise, and the economic costs become evident, even the average russian will recognize that this war is unwinnable for russia.

Occurrences such as the ongoing incursion in Kursk and Prigozhin’s coup attempt last year expedite the process. Nonetheless, patience is essential, as it may still take years before the desired outcomes are achieved.
