As announced a few days ago, the inaugural flight of Domestic Airlines was launched this Monday from Algiers Houari-Boumediene airport to Tamanrasset. The Minister of Transport, Said Sayoud, who supervised the launch of this first flight, described this event as “national acquired” of capital importance.
The inaugural flight of the Domestic Airlines company was operated by a Boeing 737-800, in the presence of the Minister of Transport, the CEO of Air Algeria, Hamza Benhamouda, the Director General of Domestic Airlines, Abdessamad Ourihane, and the CEO of the Airport Services and Infrastructure Management Society (SGSIA), Mokhtar Mediouni.
The importance of this event was underlined by the Minister of Transport, describing this stage as “national acquired”, reflecting “the vision of the President of the Republic in the field of transport”. Affirming that this project is “the fruit of particular presidential support” and “a constant concern to bring the citizen closer to the State and to consecrate the principle of justice in development”, Mr. Sayoud noted that Domestic Airlines has a fleet composed of Air Algeria and Tassili Airlines planes (former designation of Domestic Airlines) and that all administrative and legal procedures for the creation of this company are finalized.
The Minister also said that this launch, which included the first flight to the depths of the Great South, “represents a cornerstone in the process of modernizing the transport sector, according to a global vision which makes internal air transport a central pillar in the service of the citizen and the strengthening of balanced national development across the country”.
He also welcomed “all those who contributed to the realization of this pioneering project”, particularly the CEO of Air Algeria, as well as “all the executives and staff who worked with diligence and dedication to succeed in this important step”.
“Following in a strategic public service mission, this regular Algiers-Tamanrasset flight responds to the mobility needs of citizens and strengthen air links between the different regions of the country, thus supporting national integration and contributing to the efforts of the State in favor of the development of the national air transport system”, according to a press release from the company.
Domestic Airlines was, let us recall, created to strengthen the air transport offer between the various wilayas of the country and support socio-economic development, after the transfer of ownership of Tassili Airlines to Air Algeria, finalized in mid-August.
The Minister of Transport has also returned to the renewal aspect of the land transportation park, claiming that the operation, which will be in collaboration with the partners, is underway. “We are working to renew the park in the coming years,” he said, indicating that the sector is working to achieve a global solution concerning the situation of land transport.
The Minister of Transport said last week, on the occasion of a meeting devoted to the examination of concrete measures to be implemented for the withdrawal of dilapidated buses and the renewal of the public transport park, in accordance with the instructions of the President of the Republic, that the withdrawal of dilapidated buses and the renewal of the National Park will be in two stages. The first concerns the renewal of buses over 30 and the second buses over 20 years old.
