The Permanent Representative of Algeria to the United Nations, Amar Bendjama, denounced the day before yesterday Tuesday at the Security Council the use by the Zionist entity of famine as a weapon of war in the Gaza Strip. He assured that the ultimate goal of this policy was to push the Ghazaouis out of their land. “Nine months after the start of the (Zionist) war machine against the defenseless population of Gaza, the humanitarian situation is catastrophic,” said Mr. Bendjama, during his speech at the Security Council meeting devoted to the Middle East and Palestine, affirming that the Zionist entity continued to use famine as a real weapon of war. He will cite, in this regard, the report of the Executive Director of the World Food Program (WFP) which indicated that famine in Gaza can only be avoided by guaranteeing “immediate and complete access” to the north of the Palestinian enclave.
“Last December, the Security Council adopted resolution 27-20, which concerns the establishment of a mechanism to facilitate and simplify the delivery of humanitarian aid to Gaza, a mechanism that was presented as a solution to the obstacles imposed by the administration of the Zionist occupier,” he recalled, noting that this resolution has simply proven its “ineffectiveness.” “When this resolution was adopted, some 100 trucks entered Gaza daily. Before October 7, there were 500. Today (…), humanitarian actors continue to face many difficulties in accessing Gaza,” he noted, noting that humanitarian access to the Palestinian enclave is now “extremely limited” with, last June, a maximum of 73 trucks per day. “This limited number is the result of the deliberate policy of the (Zionist) occupier which uses famine as a weapon of war (…) Hunger and fear are used to bring the Palestinians to their knees and to turn their lives into a real hell,” he said.
“How can we justify the destruction (…) of the Rafah crossing which is now out of service? How can we justify all these bureaucratic obstacles imposed by the occupation authorities on the access of humanitarian aid?” he asked. Amar Bendjama also deplored the impossibility for UNRWA (United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestinian Refugees) to continue working in the Gaza Strip. “It is unacceptable that UNRWA continues to be the target of attacks. UNRWA is irreplaceable,” he insisted.
