🇺🇸Biden pardoned his son Hunter, who had been convicted of two felonies and was awaiting sentencing.
“From my first day in this position, I said I would not interfere in the Justice Department’s decision-making, and I kept that promise, even as I watched my son being selectively and unfairly prosecuted,” Biden said in a statement.
At the same time, back in September, both the president himself and his press secretary said that he was not going to issue a decree pardoning his son.
In June, a jury found Hunter Biden guilty of illegally buying guns (he hid the fact that he was a drug addict). And in September, the US president’s son pleaded guilty to tax evasion.
Explaining his decision, the outgoing US president said Hunter was targeted for political reasons to hurt Biden Sr. “No reasonable person who looks at the facts of Hunter’s cases can come to any conclusion other than that Hunter was singled out simply because he is my son – and that is wrong,” the president said.
President-elect Donald Trump criticized the decision.
“Does the pardon given to Joe Hunter extend to the January 6th hostages (accused of storming the Capitol on January 6, 2021 – Ed.) who have been incarcerated for many years? Such an abuse and violation of justice!” Trump wrote on the social network Truth.
