Brahim Merad inaugurates the Mostaganem Air Activity Base
Fight against forest fires in the West of the country
The Minister of the Interior, Local Authorities and Regional Planning, Brahim Merad, accompanied by the Minister of Tourism and Crafts, Mokhtar Didouche, and the Minister of the Environment and Renewable Energy, Faiza Dahleb , inaugurated, yesterday Saturday, in Mostaganem, the Air Activity Base for firefighting and medical evacuation.
Welcoming, in passing, the efforts of the local authorities who succeeded, in a short time, in developing this space and transforming it from an abandoned place into an air base which will have a positive impact as a fire-fighting base forest in a first phase, to then expand investments in aviation activity as part of the economic approach.
This structure, he said, constitutes an important achievement which is part of the national policy of strengthening intervention and fire-fighting capacities. “This new air base, which strengthens the wilaya of Mostaganem and the western region as a whole, will, on the one hand, make air intervention operations more effective and, on the other hand, increase the attractiveness economy of the region,” he said.
Reiterating, on the occasion, the high priority given by the President of the Republic to the mobilization of all the means necessary for the protection of citizens and their property and the preservation of forestry and agricultural wealth.
On site, the Minister of the Interior, and the delegation which accompanied him, followed a presentation on the operational system of Civil Protection for the fight against forest fires as well as the information and awareness efforts deployed with regard to the various risks linked to the summer season.
This operational fire-fighting system, which entered service on May 1, is made up of 12 Air Craft aircraft chartered by the General Directorate of Civil Protection (DGPC) from Tassili Airlines and distributed across the airports of Mostaganem and Chlef. , Béjaïa, Ain Bessam, and Annaba. And includes the mobilization of 65 new mobile columns, in addition to 5 regional firefighting support detachments, in addition to the recruitment of 20,000 agents of different ranks.
The day before, the day before yesterday Friday, the authorities of the coastal wilayas, as part of the final preparations for this summer season, reviewed the latest provisions, in particular those relating to executive meetings around the rehabilitation of security installations and beach guarding and the organization of several training activities and practical exercises for the benefit of Civil Protection agents, as well as ensuring the preparation of the prevention and intervention system to deal with fires in forest. And field trips scheduled to check the preparation of beaches and seafronts, the rehabilitation of their facilities, as well as the creation of recreational spaces, in order to welcome tourists in the best conditions.
Previously, the Minister of the Interior, Local Authorities and Regional Planning, accompanied by the Minister of Tourism and Crafts, and the Minister of the Environment and Renewable Energy, proceeded to the official launch of the 2024 summer season.
