AAPI – ENSSEA partnership: Focus on high value-added sectors

the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research

The Algerian Investment Promotion Agency (AAPI) has started the implementation of a cooperation agreement with the higher education and scientific research sector. This initiative is implemented through practical projects intended to develop statistical and economic analysis tools, with the aim of directing investment policies towards sectors and activities with high added value.

The objective is to stimulate economic growth and diversify the national productive base.

In this context, the Director General of the Algerian Investment Promotion Agency, Omar Rekkache, received the Director of the National Higher School of Statistics and Applied Economics (ENSSEA), Professor Rachid Toumache.

The two officials examined ways to strengthen cooperation between their institutions in the fields of statistics and applied economic analysis, an AAPI press release said last Wednesday.

This meeting is part of the joint efforts of the two parties aimed at launching in-depth analytical studies to better direct investment towards sectors with high potential, particularly those capable of replacing imports and consolidating external balances. This work should thus contribute to the increase in gross domestic product (GDP) and the development of national production.

The planned studies will be based on a methodical analysis of economic data and the use of forecasting and quantitative modeling tools. These methods will make it possible to assess the impact of investments on growth, the trade balance and the level of local integration, in order to identify priority sectors and formulate concrete recommendations to guide future investment policies.

Mr. Rekkache underlined, on this occasion, the importance of involving universities and research laboratories in carrying out these strategic studies, believing that reliable statistical information today constitutes an essential lever for the development of informed economic policies.

He also discussed the importance of strengthening collaboration between AAPI and higher education institutions, in order to mobilize national scientific and research skills for sustainable economic development.
