Célébration grandiose à Tizi Ouzou – Le Jeune Indépendant


National Student Day was greatly celebrated this Sunday in Tizi Ouzou by the student community and the wilaya authorities.

After a meditation at the Martyrs Square, in M’douha, translated by the raising of the colors, the reading of the Fatiha and the laying of a wreath of flowers at the foot of the stele, the wali and the imposing procession accompanying him headed to the Fatma N’Soumer high school for a second ceremony, where a stele was erected on which the 48 names of the martyred students and high school students are inscribed.

It is also in this space that Si Ouali Aït Ahmed, officer of the ALN and no less secretary general of the ONM of the wilaya of Tizi Ouzou, spoke to discuss the political and nationalist motivations of the Algerian student , which led him, on this day of May 19, 1956, to exchange his pen and his dictionaries for the rifle and to put himself under the banner of the FLN/ALN to fight colonial France. Mr. Si Ouali also made the comparison between Algeria, which had just gained independence, and Algeria today.

“In 1962, Algeria had only 500 students while today, it has 1,200,000,” he maintained, while highlighting the efforts made by the Algerian state in the educational sector. . Mr. Si Ouali recalled that at that time, Algerian students were only 500 while students of European origin numbered 4,500. Finally, the ALN officer, after emphasizing the strong ties who united Algerians during the war of national liberation, called for the strengthening of national cohesion.

Questioned by the Young Independent on the number of martyred students and high school students from the Tizi Ouzou wilaya, Aït Ahmed Si Ouali indicated that they were around 80. However, according to official figures, the listed students and high school students who fell on the field of honor are numbered of 67.

It should be noted that after this ceremony, which took place at the Fatma N’Soumer high school, Djillali Doumi and his delegation headed to the village Thala Mansour, douar of Bouhinoun and commune of Tizi Ouzou, to inaugurate a treatment room. In the afternoon, the wali had to reach the territory of the commune of Ouaguenoun, more precisely the university residence of the chouhadas the Rayah Brothers. In this space, a whole series of activities in correlation with National Student Day were planned.
