Ces bus de l’horreur !

While waiting for the arrival of thousands of new passenger buses to replace the old fleet in the public transport sector and, at the same time, stem the phenomenon of road accidents, following a firm measure decided by the Head of State, Abdelmadjid Tebboune, the day after the death of 19 passengers of an old passenger bus which occurred in El-Harrach (Algiers) last August, the involvement of drivers of passenger transport coaches in the road massacre remains very high and is becoming more and more evident in the country. Drivers of public transport buses and heavy goods vehicles are among the weak links in the road tragedies experienced on a daily basis. Each year, an average of 7,500 heavy equipment drivers are involved in traffic accidents in the country.
Dangerous maneuvers and overtaking, speeding and sometimes driving under the influence of drugs or drunkenness and non-compliance with the highway code, thousands of passenger bus drivers and semi-trailer drivers cause, each year, hundreds of victims despite intense efforts made by the services concerned to stem this phenomenon, in particular the security services which, between awareness-raising and repression, monitor the bad behavior of certain passenger bus drivers on a daily basis.
Just yesterday, 12 passengers on a passenger bus were injured in a collision with a vehicle in the wilaya of Relizane, while a collision between a passenger bus and a truck caused 15 injuries in M’Sila.
According to Civil Protection, the first incident occurred at 7:33 a.m. yesterday at wilaya road No. 20, more precisely at a place called Douar Hassi Belmekki, in the commune of El Kettar in the wilaya of Relizane, specifying that the accident resulted from a collision between a bus and a private vehicle.
Response teams quickly arrived on scene to treat the victims, who were all transported to the local hospital to receive the necessary care. An investigation has been opened to determine the exact circumstances of this accident.
The second accident involving a passenger bus occurred in the evening from Monday to Tuesday on the National Road
No. 46, near Boussaâda, in the wilaya of M’sila, according to Civil Protection. The accident occurred at 8:32 p.m. and involved a passenger bus connecting Bordj Bou-Arréridj and Hassi Messaoud, as well as a truck. The collision left fifteen people injured.
Let us remember that on August 15, Algeria was shaken by a serious traffic accident involving a passenger bus. This concerns the El-Harrach bus accident involving an outdated and “overloaded” minibus, leaving 19 dead and 25 injured among the passengers.
On July 4, 2025, the wilaya of Jijel was shaken by a terrible traffic accident that occurred on the National Road RN No. 43 when a passenger bus skidded, killing four passengers.
On July 23 of the current year, six passengers of two passenger buses died during a dramatic pileup that occurred in the wilaya of El-Bayadh also involving an inter-wilaya taxi and a semi-trailer. The deadly accident also caused 77 injuries among the passengers of the two coaches. On April 29, 2025, twelve passengers of two passenger buses died in two fatal accidents that occurred in the wilayas of Bouira and Ghardaïa.
The first accident occurred during the night of April 28 to 29, 2025, during a deviation of a passenger transport bus from its trajectory on the East-West highway, towards Béjaïa, in the commune of Ahnif in the wilaya of Bouira. The tragedy claimed the lives of six people, whose bodies were transferred to the morgue, while 29 other passengers were injured and hospitalized.
The same night, six passengers on a passenger bus died and 14 others were injured, three of them seriously, in a second traffic accident involving a passenger coach. The tragedy occurred 50 km south of Ghardaïa at a place called Oued-Ghezalette.
The accident occurred on the section of the RN 1 between Ghardaïa and the town of Mansoura, when a passenger bus traveling from Adrar to Algiers collided head-on with a vehicle traveling in the opposite direction.
On April 7, 2025, two passenger buses full of passengers overturned in two traffic accidents that occurred in the wilayas of Médéa and Naâma; the two overturns caused 24 injuries in total, it should be remembered.
