The teams of MF Akbou (Béjaïa) under 16 (girls) and JS Bethioua (Oran) under 17 (boys) were crowned Algerian handball champions in their respective categories at the end of the national challenge of the discipline, which closed on Saturday evening in Oran.
This competition, which lasted for three days, saw the participation of six women’s teams: MF Akbou, AHB Oran, AF Sétif, NG Rahouia, CS Koléa and AC Mila, as well as ten men’s teams, namely, OM Annaba, TR Beni Slimane, JS Bethioua, CS Bayada, IR Bouteldja, CS Emir Abdelkader, CS Tablat, CS Ain Oulmane, CS Casbah and CS Beni Abbes. Three multi-purpose halls were selected for the qualifying phase, namely the Hamou Boutlélis sports hall and the Akid Lotfi and Sid El Bachir multi-purpose halls, while the two finals took place at the first hall mentioned above.
The president of the Oran Regional Handball League, Brahim Bounader, said in a statement to APS that he was “satisfied” with the conditions in which this challenge took place, highlighting the “very good spirit” displayed by the young handball players of all the participating teams.
He also considered that this competition was a great opportunity for young players to gauge their abilities on the national level, as well as for coaches and selectors to unearth future talents in Algerian handball. In addition, the Oran Regional League took the opportunity to honor MC Oran and CS Chlef (men) after their accessions to the Excellence and National 1 championships respectively. The ceremony took place on the sidelines of the national challenge finals.
