The Minister of Agriculture, Rural Development and Fisheries, Youcef Cherfa launched on Wednesday from the wilaya of Bejaia, the national campaign of the Honor of the Sunflower for the 2025 agricultural season. The Minister launched the Sunflower Harvest campaign in an agricultural production unit (ex-pilot-pilot) in the commune of Oued Amizour, north of the Soummam valley, during a work visit and inspection in the wilaya of Béjaïa.
In a statement to the press, the Minister stressed that the area dedicated to strategic crops, in particular the oilseeds, is “in net increase”, encouraging agricultural production units to get involved in the policy of industrial strategic cultures, in particular rapeseed and sunflower, and even soybeans in the future.
Previously, in the morning, the minister laid the first stone of a project to carry out 27 strategic silos for long -term storage of cereals, in the commune of Seddouk, south of the wilaya. This project, with a storage capacity of 100,000 tonnes, is part of the strengthening of the national cereal -lasting storage program, which includes the realization of 350 proximity centers and 30 strategic silos with a total storage capacity of 5 million tonnes, through national territory. The Minister who also inaugurated a closet storage hangar with a capacity of 5,000 tonnes in the same commune, stressed on occasion “the importance given by the country’s authorities to carry out these strategic projects which are part of the food security policy, and the reduction of dependence on imports”.
Mr. Cherfa also said, on the occasion, that the wilaya of Béjaïa will benefit from other cereal storage projects in the commune of Kherrata. In the same wake, the minister called on farmers to get closer to public banking establishments to benefit from the advantages of the recently signed agreement between the ministries of agriculture and finance for the financing of projects to carry out storage space in cold (cold rooms of small and medium capacity). These are interest-free credits with a cap of 15 billion DA intended for operators wishing to invest in the cold storage sector which “also participates in the national food security strategy program”, he said. Mr. Cherfa recalled the other achievements of the sector, including the sanitation of agricultural land, noting that the wilaya of Béjaïa has already started the operation.
During this visit, the minister went to an agricultural farm for the production of eggs in consumption, in the daïra of Akbou, he inspected an oil mill, as well as an olive grove in Ouzellaguen.
