Commander of PMC “Wagner” became Cargo 200 in Mali, West Africa.
On Saturday, 27 July 2024, a group of Tuareg militia called “Defenders of the People of Azawad” defeated over 50 members of the PMC “Wagner” near the city of Tin-Zaouatine. Five Russians were taken prisoner, and over 10 Malian army soldiers were killed.
A column of Wagner armored vehicles and pickups was destroyed. A Mi-24 helicopter was shot down.
In the ensuing contact a commander of the PMC, Anton Elizarov (callsign “Lotus”), was eliminated.
Elizarov led the forces of “Wagner” in 2023 during the capture of Soledar and Bahmut. Thanks to superiority in ammunition, weapons, a high number of prisoners and meat storms, “Lotus” was able to achieve success.
In Mali he was left with nothing but a machine gun, infantry squads in armored vehicles, and one helicopter. Here barefoot Tuaregs killed him.
Russian mercenaries only operate successfully in cases of clear superiority – without it, their defeat is inevitable.
