Construction d’une centrale solaire à Cuba – Le Jeune Indépendant

Sonelgaz has formalized the launch of the project to build a 20 MW solar power plant in Havana, Cuba. A restricted meeting was held this Tuesday at the headquarters of the Sonelgaz group to mark the start of this initiative. This was stated by the company in a press release.

This project concretizes Algeria’s desire to support Cuba in its energy development and its transition to more sustainable electricity production. The solar power plant, with a capacity of 20 MW, will contribute to the diversification of the Cuban energy mix and reduce its dependence on fossil fuels, said the same source.

The construction of the Havana solar power plant will be carried out by Sonelgaz, with the involvement of its subsidiary KDL CEEG (Company of Engineering, Electricity and Gas).

This project will thus contribute to strengthening Sonelgaz’s know-how in the field of renewable energies and positions the company as a major player in energy cooperation in Africa and in the world, according to the press release.

It should be noted that the realization of this project is part of the bilateral cooperation between Algeria and Cuba, reinforced by the official visit of Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel Bermudez to Algeria last November. On this occasion, President Abdelmadjid Tebboune announced Algeria’s intention to offer a solar power plant to Cuba to power the capital. As a reminder, the mission dispatched by Sonelgaz to Cuba last January made it possible to finalize the project studies and select the site of the solar power plant. Located in the capital, the site, with an area of 32 hectares, was deemed suitable for the installation of solar panels.
