The chairman of the Foreign Affairs, Cooperation and National Community Commission abroad to the Council of the Nation, Omar Dadi Adoun, received this Tuesday, at the headquarters of the Nation council, Mr. Choe Il Gwang, acting manager of the Embassy of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea in Algeria. This was indicated by a press release from the Council.

This meeting was, according to the same source, the opportunity to recall “the depth of historical relations between the two countries”, by emphasizing the constant support of North Korea in Algeria during the war of national liberation and its early recognition of the provisional government of the Algerian Republic (GPRA).

The discussions focused on “the common will of Algerian and Korean officials to diversify the areas of cooperation and strengthen bilateral and multilateral dialogue, especially within regional and international bodies,” said the Council.

The two parties also underlined “the importance of a strategic alignment in the face of current international challenges, with a particular emphasis on the situation in the Middle East and the Palestinian question”, while reaffirming “the rejection of interference in the internal affairs of the States and the need to promote international support for peacekeeping, security and development, in accordance with the calls of the President of the Republic, Mr. Abdelmadjid Tebboune ».

In terms of parliamentary cooperation, Mr. Dadi Adoun and Mr. Choe Il Gwang stressed “the importance of intensifying the exchanges of delegations and considering the creation of a parliamentary group of friendship between Algeria and North Korea”. The Korean diplomat also reiterated “the constant support of his country to the resolution of the conflict in Western Sahara in the context of international legality and decolonization, thus guaranteeing the right of the Sahrawi people to self -determination”.

This meeting demonstrates, according to the press release, “the commitment of the two countries to consolidate a historic partnership, based on mutual respect, solidarity and cooperation on international issues”.
