For optimal support.
The main objective of continuing to open new local services dedicated to specialized care is to ensure optimal patient care. This was stated on Tuesday by the Minister of Health, Abdelhak Saïhi, on the occasion of the inauguration of new services and units at the Beni Messous University Hospital Center in Algiers.
Mr. Saïhi said that the inauguration of these services is part of the implementation of the commitments of the President of the Republic, Abdelmadjid Tebboune, to bring health structures closer to citizens and improve the quality of services.
He added that these new services are part of the Action Programme for the Patient (PAM), adopted by the Ministry of Health, particularly in its section relating to the promotion of local care, the improvement of patient care, the development and upgrading of treatment rooms as well as the opening of new services and health units.
On this occasion, the Minister inaugurated at the Béni Messous University Hospital a new operating block for the general surgery department and the respiratory diseases department. This block includes oncology units, respiratory rehabilitation units as well as the medical immunology department for the management of cancerous tumors and congenital malformations. In addition, it is equipped with an immune genomics platform.
The head of the health sector stressed that the immunology department has benefited from modern, state-of-the-art equipment that will allow making the right decisions in medical diagnosis, including for cancer patients. This service will also contribute to accurate diagnoses that will help determine priorities for patient care.
Saïhi also kicked off the launch of the project of an oncology department entirely dedicated to the care of cancer patients at the Béni Messous hospital to make it a center of excellence in this field. He announced that this department will be completed in less than two years and will thus be dedicated to the treatment of tumors by chemotherapy and radiotherapy, with state-of-the-art equipment and facilities. This will help reduce the pressure on the Pierre and Marie-Curie Center (CPMC) of the Mustapha-Bacha University Hospital.
The minister also called on healthcare workers to ensure optimal care for patients, especially since the State has deployed the necessary resources to successfully carry out this mission, through improving the working conditions of healthcare workers and equipping health services with the latest technology.
The minister was keen to recall that Algeria’s strategy to promote its health system is to place the patient at the heart of the reform, particularly through the expansion of local health coverage, within the framework of the Patient Action Plan (PAM), which includes 28 objectives and 143 health activities defined over time.
Furthermore, the Minister assured that the special statutes of the health sector will be published shortly. He stated that the final version, approved by the President of the Republic in the Council of Ministers, and this after two rejections, is at the level of the General Secretariat of the Government. He recalled that the text is currently undergoing final touches concerning the correction of the translation of the text into Arabic. The Minister also stated that the new statute includes enormous advances for several bodies of health professionals, particularly for general practitioners and paramedics.
