New innovative university courses have been introduced this year for new high school graduates as part of the modernization of training and support for strategic sectors of the national economy. This was indicated on Sunday by Abdeljabar Daoudi, advisor to the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, responsible for digital information and statistics.
Daoudi noted the introduction of 32 new university courses for the 2024/2025 academic year. Among these, he particularly highlighted the establishment of the National Higher School of Cyber Security within the scientific and technological center of Sidi Abdellah.
He explained that this initiative aims to meet the growing needs in the field of cybersecurity, by training experts capable of facing contemporary digital challenges.
Another major innovation announced by Mr. Daoudi is the introduction of the concept of a double degree. During his speech on the airwaves of the National Radio, he noted that “this year, we have also introduced the concept of a double degree where, with a single bachelor’s degree, the student can study in two different specialties and obtain two degrees in separate specialties in three to five years of training.”
Regarding medical sciences, Mr. Daoudi highlighted a significant step forward, stating that “taking into account global developments, particularly in what are called the professions and medicine of tomorrow, for the first time, students will benefit from the possibility of obtaining a double degree in five new specializations.”
He specified that these include the training of doctors specialized in artificial intelligence, big data processing, bioinformatics and other innovative fields. The official assured that these specialties will contribute to training doctors with skills in new technologies, as part of Algeria’s efforts to modernize its health system.
Furthermore, to support the country’s economic dynamics, and with the aim of meeting the specific economic and industrial needs of different regions of the country, the head of the Ministry of Higher Education announced the introduction of new specializations in various universities, in line with local needs. He cited, as an example, the introduction of the specialization in textile engineering at the University of Relizane, due to its status as a stronghold of the textile industry in the country.
As part of an initiative to support the automotive industry in Algeria, Mr. Daoudi revealed the integration of five new training courses in the field of automotive technology industries. This measure aims to prepare a solid industrial base, aligned with political ambitions aimed at strengthening the country’s automotive sector.
